Life's too short for just one adventure

I heard a coworker talking about planning her honeymoon and how it's going to be their one "big trip" before they "start real life" after marriage. This got me thinking about two questions: 1)why only a single trip? and, 2) why can't exciting plans be a part of "real life?"

Why settle for one "adventure of a lifetime" when you can have an adventurous life?

According to Merriam Webster, the definition of adventure is:

  1. an undertaking usually involving danger and unknown risk; the encountering of risks
  2. an exciting or remarkable experience
  3. an enterprise involving financial risk

Let's focus on the second definition: "an exciting or remarkable experience." Why have we accepted that we're only entitled to one of these in a lifetime?! Or even one in two weeks of vacation time per year? Or only on the weekends after working Monday through Friday?

I realize that everyone's interpretation of adventure is going to be different. That's the point! It doesn't matter what your idea of adventure is; what matters is creating your own definition and building your life around it. Think about adventure as a lifestyle rather than a particular event. If you only plan on having one "exciting or remarkable experience" in your lifetime, then once its over, it's over.

Instead, make your life exciting and remarkable. You only get one.
